About Nickel 200 / 201 Pipe and Tube

Nickel 200 / 201 pipe and tube come in two commercially pure nickel grades. UNS N02200 carries up to 0.15% carbon, and UNS N02201 holds the same element to 0.02%.

In addition, both grades follow one composition table across the B161, B163, B725, and B730 standards. The Nickel 200 / 201 material page holds the full grade data, and Nickel 200 / 201 Bar and Rod plus Nickel 200 / 201 Plate and Sheet cover the other two forms.

Tubular work splits the grades on temperature rather than on corrosion. Above 315 °C, a caustic or steam line needs grade 201, because carbon leaves solution as graphite in grade 200 over time. Therefore, we confirm the service condition before quoting a wall thickness.

Nickel cathode and controlled additions are weighed to the N02200 or N02201 chemistry, and we hold carbon to the ordered limit.

The charge melts and casts into electrodes or ingots under a controlled atmosphere that limits gas pickup.

Annealed tube carries a hardness limit of 70 HRB maximum. The converter sizes above apply to thin-wall, small-diameter tube alone, and neither B161 nor B163 covers tube below 3.2 mm outside diameter with a wall under 0.38 mm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which standard covers seamless nickel pipe and tube?

ASTM B161 covers seamless pipe and tube in both grades, and ASTM B163 covers condenser and heat-exchanger tube. The two differ in elongation and testing; therefore, we quote the one your duty calls for.

When should I order grade 201 instead of grade 200?

Whenever the tube runs above about 315 °C in continuous service. Steam tracing, hot caustic lines, and exchanger duty above that point need the low-carbon grade.

Does B161 and B163 elongation differ?

Yes. B161 annealed tube at or below 127 mm outside diameter carries 35%, while B163 annealed tube carries 40%. B163 also adds a flare test that B161 does not.

Do welded tube standards apply to these grades?

They do. Also, ASTM B725 covers welded pipe and ASTM B730 covers welded heat-exchanger tube, while B751 and B775 hold the general requirements.

How is tube pressure-tested?

Every length takes a hydrostatic test at the pressure the order names, or an approved electric test where the specification allows a substitution.

What is your MOQ?

Single lengths come from stock for many sizes, and trial quantities are welcome. Also, bundle quantities quote better on both price and freight.

What are your trade terms?

Our quotations usually stand on FOB terms. Additionally, we add EXW or CIF when you prefer one of them, and we name the port at quotation.

What is the lead time?

Confirmed orders on stock lengths move out in 7–15 days. Made-to-order tube runs about 25 days, and we write the date into the order confirmation.

Do you supply EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 certificates?

Each shipment carries an EN 10204 3.1 certificate, and a 3.2 endorsement with third-party inspection is available on request.

Can you supply U-bent or coiled tube?

Yes. Also, we produce U-bend tube to your bundle drawing, and coiled lengths ship where a fabrication run calls for few joints.
